Jan 1     I started with Flora over to Baker's this morning and met Frank and he took her on. Home this evening, warm and cloudy this snow about all melted today.

Jan 2     Paul and I went to church this morning. Home this evening. Cold damp day.

Jan 3     This morning I made a bench to salt the meat on. This evening I cut telephone poles. Cold windy day.

Jan 4     Nothing done this morning. This evening I killed a hog. Paw and Dick helped. Sold to Crocker (?). Cold windy day.

Jan 5     I took a dressed hog to town today. Cloudy cool, some rain.

Jan 6     I hauled out telephone poles along the road today. About 7 inches of snow fell last night and today.

Jan 7     Ollie Baker is here today and night. Nothing done today. Ollie and Bess and I took a sleigh ride over to her folks this evening. This morning the thermometer registered 8 below zero. Coldest spell this winter.

Jan 8     We went to town today in sleigh. Today Louise and Ollie Baker went along. Fair & cold day.

Jan 9     Paul and I went to church this morning. Home this afternoon and night. Fair & cold day.

Jan 10     We hauled over to Father Stewart's and helped butcher today. Fair cold day.

Jan 11     Several of the neighbors helped me put up my telephone poles today. Warm and cloudy day.

Jan 12     This morning Dick and I strung out some of the telephone wire. Warmer and some rain today. The snow is melting fast.

Jan 13     Nothing done today. Rain all day today.

Jan 14     I hauled in some wood this morning. This evening I went over to Stewarts to grind some feed and broke the grinder. Cold cloudy day.

Jan 15     We put in the telephone today. But is not in good working order tonight. Cold cloudy day. We are home all day. Cloudy little snow.

Jan 17     I hauled home some wood this morning. George Baker was here for dinner. Warm rainy day.

Jan 18     Nothing done this morning. Dick and I sawed wood this evening. Fair and warm day. The ground is very soft.

Jan 19     Dick and I sawed wood today. Fair warm day.

Jan 20     We helped Emmie Euler butcher today. Cool cloudy, drizzly day.

Jan 21     I went to town today. Snowy blustery day.

Jan 22     I helped G. W. Howell haul baled hay today. Cold blustery snowy day.

Jan 23     Bess and I went over to her father's this evening. Cool cloudy day.

Jan 24     I helped G. W. Howell haul hay to Hayden. Fair cool day.

Jan 25     Today I hauled 60 bu wheat to Hayden today. Sold to Alfred Joseph. Fair cold day.

Jan 26     I split wood today. Warm very high wind.

Jan 27     I hauled first load corn to town this season and stopped at Hartwich's sale today. Cold cloudy day.

Jan 28     I went over to Dad (Stewart) to put a top on haystack. This evening I cleaned the stable and repaired some fence. Bess went to town this evening. Fair and cool day.

Jan 29     I went to Orkard's Mill and had some feed ground this morning. This evening I split wood. Cold cloudy day.

Sun 30     We went to Baker's today. Cold snowy day.

Jan 31     I am baling my hay today. Fair cool day.

Feb 1     I am baling hay today. Fair cool day.

Feb 2     I mashed my finger this morning and had to go to Dr. Davis to have it dressed. Paw and Dick hauled home load clover hay for me this evening. Fair cool day.

Feb 3     Nothing done today. Fair cool day.

Feb 4     Bess and I went to town today. Fair cold day.

Feb 5     Dick and I hauled 2 loads of sawdust from Hayden today. Fair cool day.

Feb 6     I waked to church this morning. Home this evening and today. Fair cold day.

Feb 7     Today I took 2 roosters out to Charles Ross and traded for 2 others and bought one and stopped at the Willey sale as I came back. Fair cool day.

Feb 8     This morning Dick and I hauled out manure. This evening we went to Hayden after a sow and seven pigs bought off Joseph. Fair cool day.

Feb 9     We went to Emmie Euler's to a birthday surprise dinner today. Very blustery snowy day.

Feb 10     Nothing done today. Pleasant day.

Feb 11     Dick is helping me repair some fence and cut few logs for lumber. Cloudy cold day.

Feb 12     I am sledding few logs to mill for lumber today. Bess went to town this evening. Cold snowy day.

Feb 13     All home today. Ida Baker was here for supper. Fair cold day.

Feb 14     Dick and I hauled home 3 loads clover hay today. Fair cool day.

Feb 15     Today we went to Liscomb Darrough's sale. Cloudy cool day.

Feb 16     Nothing done today. Sleet and snow fell all day.

Feb 17     Snowing hard all day today.

Feb 18     The snow is about 12 or 14 inches deep. Fair and cold day. This morning I hauled load of lumber from Hayden. This evening we went over to Dad Stewart's. Today Mary Barkman was buried at Seymour.

Feb 19     I went to town this evening. Charles Baker is here and went with me to town. Fair and cold day.

Feb 20     I went to church this morning. Home this evening. Fair cool day.

Feb 21     Nothing but chores done today. The snow is melting fast and the creek is rising. The teacher Mary Heaten stayed here all night. Cloudy and warm. Little rain.

Feb 22     This morning I went to Hayden after some lumber. Split wood this evening. Fair cool day.

Feb 23     Nothing done this morning. This evening I took small load corn to Orkard to have ground for feed. Fair cold day.

Feb 24     Nothing but chores done this morning. This evening Bess and I went over after last load clover hay. Fair cool day.

Feb 25     Today I loaded carload of hay at Hayden. Albert, Ollie Baker and Slone Herman helped haul and load car. Fair cool day.

Feb 26     Bess and I went to town today. Warm cloudy day.

Feb 27     Rain all day today. We went over to paw's for dinner.

Mar 10     I am putting up new grape arbor this morning. This evening Albert and I hitched the 2 year old Coffee colt for first time and drove to Hayden after sale for porch. Fair cool day.

Mar 11     This morning I made Bettie mare a box stall. She is due to foal. This evening I am working on new garden fence. Fair cool day.

Mar 16     Uncle Allen Hartwell and Aunt Jane and were here for dinner today. Also Gramie and Dell were here. Pleasant day.

Mar 17     Chapin Mullen and I are driving the two Coob(?) colts for first time today. At dinner at George Baker's. Pleasant day.

Mar 18     Today I plowed garden and potato patch. Dr. Shuman was here and dressed Bruce's teeth this evening. Pleasant day.

Mar 19     This morning I finished plowing potato patch. This evening we made some garden. Fair warm day.

Mar 29     Paul and I went to church this morning. We are all home this evening. Dick is here last night and today. Warm and little showers of rain.

Mar 21     This morning I went over to Dad Stewart's to grind some feed. This evening I began to disc corn ground for to sow oats. Fair warm day.

Mar 22     Today I am disking oats ground. Fair warm day.

Mar 23     Today I am harrowing. Went after fertilizer at Hayden this evening. Fair warm day.

Mar 24     This morning I am sowing oats. Harrowing oats ground this evening. Fair warm day.

Mar 25     Nell had her 3rd colt this morning. This morning I finished sowing oats west of the house along the pike. This evening Bess and I set out the onions and planted potatoes in garden. Fair warm day.

Mar 26     Albert and I went to town today. Drove the Coob colts. Bess went in buggy. Fair cool day.

Mar 27     We all went to church this morning and went to Emmie's after dinner. Fair warm day.

Mar 28     I prepared the potato ground to plant today. Brother Will come from Indianapolis today for a week visit. Fair warm day.

May 8     We are home this morning. Dr. Shuman is here treating Bettie's colt. This evening we went to Bessie Smith's burial at Zion.

May 9     This morning I made a hog shoot. This evening Paw and Albert and Charles Baker helped me put a new sill under the portico porch. Fair warm day.

May 10     Nothing done this morning. Mike came from home forenoon. This evening we went to the Bottoms to plow. Cool cloudy day.

May 11     This morning we went to the Bottoms to plow and it began to rain. Rained all day.

May 12     We are trying to doctor Mabel colt this morning. She is very sick and died at 2 o'clock this evening. Mike and I took two loads corn to Ed Burk at town this evening. Fair cool day.

May 13     Mike took load corn to town today. Bess and I went to town today. Fair cool day.

May 14     We are plowing today. Fair cool day.

May 15     We went to Corners to church this morning. We ate dinner at Paw's. Fair cool day.

May 16     Stewart Euler is helping me plow today. We finished the Sullivan Bottom 25 acres. Cool cloudy day.

May 23     Nothing done this morning. This evening I began to plowing Long Bottoms. Warm cloudy day. Had a hard rain fore dark.

May 24     I went to Hayden after my old buggy this morning. It was in the shop. This evening I went to George Baker's and settled for fertilizer and Mollie colt. Cool drizzly day.

May 25     Nothing done today. I went to Hayden after a size 8 fork handle. Fair cool day.

May 26     Stewart Euler is helping me harrow and I am planting corn in Sullivan Bottom today. Fair cool day.

May 27     After 2 weeks, Mike is back to work today, also Stewart is helping plowing this morning. We finished planting in Sullivan Bottoms and begun to plow in Long Bottoms. Fair cool day.

May 28     Stewart is helping us plow and plant corn today. I have got half the Long Bottom planted. Fair warm day.

May 29     We are all home today. Emmie and Grace and Stewart were here today. Rain this morning.

May 30     Stewart is helping us plow today. Fair cool day.

May 31     We finished planting corn today and I hauled load corn to John Adolph this evening as I came home. Cloudy very cool day.

Jun 1     Mike is helping to plow down the alfalfa patch over in Bottom. I took Nell and Coffee to Hayden to have them shod. This evening we ground load of feed. Fair cool day.

Jun 2     We went over to Father St. I hauled out manure on corn field today. Cloudy cool day.

Jun 29     This morning we plowed corn til dry enough, then cut wheat the balance of day. Fair and warm day.

Jun 30     This morning we finished the third time corn plowing at home. Also finished cutting wheat. This evening we went to the Bottoms to plow corn. Hot sultry day.

Jul 1     We are plowing corn today. Bess went to town this morning. Hot sultry day.

Jul 2     Rain this morning. Nothing much done today. Bess and I went to Four Corners to picnic this evening. Rainy warm day.

Jul 3     I went to church this morning. We went to Paw's for dinner. Lena and Frank Baker and Flora are home from Indianapolis. Hot sultry day.

Jul 4     We are plowing corn today. Warm cloudy.

Jul 5     This morning we finished the third time corn plowing in the Bottoms. This evening we begun to hoe out weeds. Had a hard rain and lightning. We are told that the lightning struck George Baker's stud barn and killed his Jack.

Jul 6     Some rain today. We are putting up a new wove wire hog lot today.

Jul 7     Today we are still working on hog lot. I went to town this evening. Fair hot.

Jul 8     We all went to Grandma Stewart's surprise birthday dinner. 72 years old. There was 50 people for dinner. I cut a little clover late this evening and Mike hoed some weeds out of corn. Fair hot day.

Jul 9     Albert helped us mow weeds this morning. This evening we took up clover hay and the rain stopped us.

Jul 10     We went to George Baker's today. Hot, sultry day.

Jul 11     Five men from Hayden are helping me mow weeds out of corn today. The Sullivan Bottoms is all hoed out. Warm cloudy little rain this evening.

Jul 12     We begun to lay by corn today. Had a hard rain forenoon and more rain this evening. Albert is helping me this morning.

Jul 13     Albert and I are cutting oats this afternoon. Frank Baker is helping to shock. Too wet to work this morning. Fair hot.

Jul 14     Albert and Frank Baker are cutting oats today. I cut clover this morning and Mike and I took up two loads this evening. Fair hot day.

Jul 15     Albert and Mike are cutting oats this morning. Bess and I went to town this evening. We begun to lay by corn in Bottoms with three plows. Hot sultry.

Jul 16     Nothing done today. Had a hard rain last night and still raining today. We think that corn plowing is a thing of the past now. Bess and I went to Hayden this evening.

Jul 17     We had a very hard rain and storms this morning. After dinner we went over to Em. Euler's. The creek is out some in Bottom.

Jul 18     We are putting up hay today. Fair cool day.

Jul 19     We are putting up hay today. Frank Baker is helping this evening. Fair cool day.

Jul 20     We finished the clover hay here at home today. I went to the Bottoms this evening begun to cut timothy. Mike and Frank put up 4 loads this evening. Fair warm day.

Jul 21     Mike and Frank are helping put up hay in the Bottoms today. Fair hot day.

Jul 22     We finished putting up in the Bottoms today. 11 loads. Hot sultry day.

Jul 23     Bess and I went to town this morning. Frank is cutting grass here at home this morning. Mike is picking berries this evening. We took up 3 loads hay. We may not put up anymore as it is not very good. Fair hot day.

Jul 24     Frank Baker and I went to church this morning. Then we all went to Paw's for dinner. Warm showery day.

Jul 25     Nothing done this morning. This evening Paw and I hauled load of wheat for George Baker to car at Hayden. Hot sultry day. After several days visit at Paw's, Mort Shaffer and wife returned to Indianapolis.

Jul 26     This morning I hauled another load wheat to car for George Baker this evening. Albert helped me move the granary. Hot sultry day.

Jul 27     Hard rain this morning. This evening Will and Albert helped me put up frame for straw stack shed. Hot sultry evening.

Jul 28     We went to N. Vernon country fair today. Lena and Louisa went with us. Rain this morning. Fair evening.

Aug 1     This morning I finished cutting little patch of grass and cut some weeds. After a week Mike is back and helped put up load of hay. Then we cut weeds and briars along fences. Fair warm day.

Aug 2     This morning Mike and I went to church. I went to confession. This evening we went to Bottoms to plow for wheat. Hot sultry.

Aug 3     This morning Mike picked berries and I mowed weeds along the pike. This evening we plowed for wheat. Hot sultry day.

Aug 20     Today we thrashed…Paw, myself, Siss(?) Crockenburger, and J. Burgmeyer. Then went to Four Corners picnic. Fair warm day.

Aug 21     We went to Zion Church this morning and tonight. Fair warm day.

Aug 22     This morning I went to P.F. Wetzel after young sow I bought. Then I helped thrash William Boner and A. Gawhen(?). I am done thrashing now. Mike quit working Saturday, went home yesterday morning. Today Bess is 30 years old and tonight they ran in a crew of 26 young folks as a surprise. Warm cloudy day.
